Ukrainian MP Serhii Kozyr has appealed to newly appointed Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara, urging him to give particular attention to the security situation in the Kherson region and proposing a joint meeting with the leadership of the regional military administration.
Kozyr said he supported Khmara’s candidacy given his previous experience leading a special operations unit. At the same time, the MP stressed that the situation in the Kherson sector should become one of the new defense minister’s priorities.
“Everyone can see what the enemy is doing to the city: daily terror against civilians, strikes on transport and residential buildings. People there are fighting for survival every day,” Kozyr said.
The MP also cited casualty figures from attacks in the Kherson region. According to him, 101 people were injured over the past week and eight were killed, including a child.
Kozyr added that five people were killed in drone attacks in the space of just two hours on the morning of his statement.
In response to the situation, the MP proposed that the new defense minister hold a joint meeting with the leadership of the Kherson Regional Military Administration immediately after taking office.
“We urgently need to develop practical steps to improve the security situation in the region to the greatest extent possible,” Kozyr stressed.
According to the MP, there are no quick or simple solutions, but strengthening civilian security and countering Russian attacks are achievable objectives.
“There are no quick and easy solutions here, but strengthening people’s security and countering enemy terror are entirely realistic tasks,” Kozyr concluded.
