Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan passed away at the age of 72, leaving behind more than just a legacy in the ring. In the mid-90s, he ventured into music — and unexpectedly found success.
In 1995, Hogan formed a group called Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band, featuring his then-wife Linda, fellow wrestler Jimmy “Mouth of the South” Hart, and soundtrack composer J.J. Maguire. Their album “Hulk Rules” was critically dismissed but resonated with younger audiences, reaching No. 12 on the Billboard Top Kid Audio chart.
Hogan also appeared in Dolly Parton’s music video “Headlock on My Heart”, where he marries her in a wrestling ring. The video was part of her TV show Dolly.
From the wrestling ring to children’s music charts, Hogan proved that cultural influence doesn’t need to follow any formula.
