Guangzhou-based Kaiwa Technology aims to launch by 2026 the world’s first humanoid robot equipped with an artificial womb in its abdomen. The device will enable a fetus to develop from conception to birth within simulated amniotic fluid, receiving nutrients through a hose mimicking the umbilical cord. The anticipated price is under 100,000 yuan (approximately $14,000).
The breakthrough was presented at the 2025 World Robot Conference, where founder Zhang Qifeng stated the artificial womb technology is already mature in lab settings — now the challenge is integrating it into a humanoid body capable of interacting with a real person during “gestation”.
