Polish security services have detained a 63-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of attempting to assassinate a representative of Ukraine’s defense industry. Investigators allege the suspect acted on behalf of Russian intelligence services and planted an improvised explosive device under the target’s vehicle in Irpin.
Poland’s Internal Security Agency has detained a Ukrainian national suspected of involvement in a failed assassination attempt against a representative of Ukraine’s defense industry.
According to investigators, 63-year-old Serhii P. allegedly carried out the operation on behalf of Russian intelligence services.
The attempted assassination took place in Irpin, Kyiv region.
Investigators say the suspect planted an improvised explosive device under a vehicle used by the intended victim.
The device was allegedly designed to be detonated remotely using a mobile phone.
However, the bomb failed to explode because of a malfunction.
Following the failed assassination attempt, the suspect fled Ukraine and entered Poland.
Polish Internal Security Agency officers detained him in Warsaw on August 5.
The Ukrainian citizen has been charged with attempted murder involving explosives that he allegedly possessed without authorization.
A court ordered the suspect to remain in temporary custody for three months.
The investigation is ongoing.
