Pop star Ed Sheeran has joined the ranks of celebrity painters — he’s taken up painting. He used to design his own album covers, but eventually decided it was time to monetize his talent, and now he creates canvases in the style of Jackson Pollock.
Between tours and working on new music, Sheeran escapes almost every morning to an abandoned parking lot: “I started painting in 2019, and I use it as a creative outlet.”
For now, Ed’s paintings sell for relatively little — about a thousand dollars per canvas on average — but he’s already represented by the London gallery Heni, which also works with Damien Hirst. Unlike many other celebrity artists, Sheeran doesn’t pocket the money — he donates half of the proceeds from each painting to his charity fund supporting music education in UK schools.
In short, he’s promoting himself the best he can. The paintings match the music — only the music sells better.
